Building stories piece by piece
A Texas reader now with Choctaw Electric crafted Oklahoma collage from magazine covers, showing how co-op stories become part of community.
Recently, I met a reader from Texas who is now a member of Choctaw Electric Cooperative. He brought something special with him — a custom wooden Oklahoma shape covered in past Oklahoma Living magazine covers he had carefully cut and arranged by hand.
Every piece of it told a story. Hidden gems. Veterans. Small towns. Recipes. Cooperative crews restoring power after storms. The people and places that fill these pages each month were all part of the artwork.
It showed me something easy to lose sight of during deadlines and production schedules: this magazine becomes part of people’s lives.
Electric cooperatives have always believed service goes beyond delivering electricity. Co-ops invest in the communities they serve because the people behind the meter matter. Oklahoma Living is part of that commitment. It’s a way cooperatives stay connected to their members while celebrating the rural livelihoods and Oklahoma stories that deserve a place to be told.
The best stories often begin with a phone call, an email or a reader sharing someone we need to meet. Month after month, cooperative members open their homes, businesses and lives to us so we can tell the stories of rural Oklahoma honestly and well.
So to the reader who turned our covers into a work of art, thank you. And thank you to every reader who flips through these pages each month.
This magazine belongs to you, and you always have a place at your cooperative.
