Building stronger communities

October 2023

Local electric cooperatives help to build stronger communities they are part of and even those they are not.

As the leaves change colors and a crispness fills the air, we find ourselves embracing not only the beauty of autumn but also the spirit of collaboration and community. Welcome to National Co-op Month —  a time to celebrate the incredible impact of cooperatives on our economy, society and the lives of individuals across the nation.

Cooperatives, often called “co-ops,” embody the essence of unity, equality and shared prosperity. They are not just businesses; they are communities that come together to achieve common goals and promote the values of democratic ownership. Members receive this publication as a benefit to their rural electric cooperative membership.

What’s truly inspiring is that co-ops prioritize people over profit, ensuring each member has an equal say in decision-making and an equitable share of the benefits. This month we are sharing examples to help readers understand more about how co-ops empower individuals and communities with our October cover story.

In a world grappling with many changes, co-ops showcase a path forward — one that’s built on collaboration, respect and a commitment to leaving no one behind. Let’s celebrate your co-op membership and recognize that by working together, we can achieve greatness beyond what we could ever accomplish alone.
