Lighting the way
Every February, Oklahoma Living’s legislative guide edition serves as a reminder of the essential role our electric cooperatives play in powering progress — not just in the homes, farms and businesses across our state, but within the halls of government. This year’s cover reflects that connection in a meaningful way.
When deciding how best to capture the spirit of this issue, I wanted an image that spoke to the heart of the cooperative difference. That’s why we asked Curtis Chlouber, a construction foreman with Cimarron Electric Cooperative, to stand on the steps of the Oklahoma Capitol. Curtis represents all the men and women whose efforts fuel progress in ways both visible and unseen.
Curtis’ willingness to participate in this shoot embodies the spirit of cooperation. When I called to ask if he’d step in as our cover subject, Curtis was out on a job site. As we talked, he paused briefly to finish his task before returning to our conversation. That moment struck me as quintessentially cooperative: taking care of the work that matters most, ensuring his team and community came first, then answering the call to help in another way.
Thank you, Curtis, for pausing your day to represent all that makes cooperatives extraordinary. And thank you to every co-op employee and member who continues to champion the cooperative difference.
Co-ops are commited to ensuring the voices of Oklahoma’s rural and suburban communities are heard and that our members have a seat at the table when decisions impacting energy policy and infrastructure are made. I hope this issue helps you see how your co-op is investing in a brighter future for all Oklahomans.
