Opening the door to Christmas magic
When our oldest daughter was 2, she wasn’t so sure about Santa Claus. The idea of a jolly stranger coming into our house while she was asleep didn’t sit quite right with her. She decided it would be best for everyone if he left the presents on the porch instead.
Last year, she reconsidered. With all the confidence a 3-year-old could muster, she leaned close during a visit and informed Santa that he could come inside this time. Of course, Santa’s smile sparkled in response. Watching her faith in the magic of the season grow has reminded me how much joy there is in believing that good things can happen when we open the door.
Across Oklahoma, electric cooperatives are opening doors and brightening lives. From community toy drives and food pantries to Operation Round Up donations and local parades, co-op employees and member-volunteers are sharing light in every sense of the word.
Christmas in Oklahoma has a way of bringing that spirit to life. Whether it’s the glow of courthouse squares strung with lights, kids bundled up enjoying a cup of hot chocolate or the quiet peace of a frosty morning on a dirt road, this season reminds us how deeply our lives are woven together.
As for our family, we’ll leave the cookies out, hang the stockings and wait for the sound of little feet racing down the hall. I’ll be grateful, once again, for the light and love that fills our home and for the electric co-op family that helps make that same warmth possible across our state.
From my family, and all of us at Oklahoma Living, Merry Christmas. May your season be bright, your home warm and your heart open to the wonder of it all.
