The symposium’s keynote address was delivered by Glenn English Jr., a Cordell native who served 10 terms in the U.S. House of Representatives representing Oklahoma’s 6th Congressional District before leading the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. English became known for his work supporting rural development, agriculture and rural electrification programs that strengthened communities across Oklahoma and beyond.
During his 18 years as CEO of NRECA, English was a leading national advocate for rural electric cooperatives and the communities they serve, representing more than 900 consumer-owned electric cooperatives across 47 states. He championed rural electrification, affordable energy and policies aimed at strengthening rural America while helping guide cooperatives through major changes in the energy industry.
Oklahoma Association of Electric Cooperatives General Manager/CEO Nicki Fuller introduced English ahead of his remarks. The event celebrated Oklahoma’s rich history while creating space for new conversations about the events that continue to define the state.
