Transformative youth camp empowers new leaders
Eight grade students spend a week learning how an electric cooperative operates

More than 70 eighth graders from across Oklahoma attended the 2023 Energy Camp, sponsored by Oklahoma’s Electric Cooperatives, from May 30-June 2.
Campers learned about the electric cooperative business model and how to discover their own leadership potential. Students also received hands-on experience climbing a utility pole, and learned about the vital role safety plays in providing reliable power.
During the week, camper small groups each elected a representative for the Energy Camp board of directors, who then interviewed candidates and hired the general manager of Energy Camp. This year, the Energy Camp manager was Emerson McElroy representing Choctaw Electric Cooperative.
The 2023 Energy Camp board of directors thanks all Oklahoma co-op members for allowing students the opportunity to attend Energy Camp. The memories made and relationships developed will last far beyond the time spent at camp.
