Oklahomans may dream about a white Christmas but according to weather records, it’s only snowed on Christmas 17 times since 1961. You can’t count on Mother Nature – but CKenergy members Randy and Tammy Cocheran can promise white flakes for visitors to Cowboy Town Christmas on their farm near Anadarko.

Building a western town had long been a dream of Randy Cocheran. Following the death of a close friend, Cocheran realized he’d dreamt long enough. “I’m going to quit my job and build that Old West town,“ he announced to his wife. The Cocherans owned 120 acres and began building Cowboy Town right in the middle of it.

Tammy Cocheran says, “We started with the saddle shop. The sign on the building reads ‘Douglas Allen Cattle Company’ in honor of Randy’s friend. We started with one building and the next year added another, then another.” Each of the buildings is named after friends who have passed. Other buildings include a blacksmith shop, barber shop, saloon, hotel, bank, sheriff’s office and a general store.

Most of the year, the property is only open by pre-arrangement or for special events like the Halloween Haunted Trail and their largest event, Cowboy Town Christmas. Tammy Cocheran says, “People come out with their horses and ride on the property. The land is flat with lots of trees. And we’ve built trails.”

Those same trails are used for hayrides during Cowboy Town Christmas, which takes place this year on the evenings of December 10, 16, 17 and 22. Each evening begins with Santa plugging in the lights on the big Christmas tree.

As for the snow, the Cocherans have snow machines that add magic to a short outdoor show featuring the Grinch and Cindy Lou Who, as well as an Old West gunfight.

Another highlight is a hayride along a trail past a series of scenes depicting the nativity story, which is narrated and features live actors.

Other Cowboy Town treats include a petting zoo with horses, goats, sheep, pigs and alpaca, a bounce house, a mega slide and giant human hamster wheel, a barrel-train trip through the enchanted elf forest and thousands of Christmas lights.

Shop for souvenirs in the general store, sip hot cocoa or have a cowboy meal – homemade cornbread, chicken and dumplings and cobbler in the saloon. And there are lots of spots for photo ops.

Tickets are $12 per person online or $15 at the door.

Randy Cocheran says, “Cowboy Town Christmas wasn’t what we started out to do, but it developed into the main thing. We also do school field trips and birthday parties. Someday we want to have camps for kids.”

The Cocherans dream big. If your dreams include a snowy holiday, plan to visit Cowboy Town Christmas. Randy says, “At Cowboy Town, dreams do come true.”
